"Grey's" Star Checked In to UCLA Psych Ward

TMZ has learned actor Justin Chambers, Dr. Alex Karev on "Grey's Anatomy," checked himself in to the psych ward at UCLA Medical Center this week. Yes, it's the same place ...

Chambers' rep confirmed to TMZ that star checked in on Monday and checked out yesterday.

The rep claims Chambers, a married father of five, was "exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder. He went in voluntarily to get some help."

Chambers was in the same ward where Britney is being treated.

166. The real problem with psych care is the fact that almost no one has psych benefits on their insurance coverage. Most working people can't afford to sign a voluntary psych agreement, because you wouldn't be able to pay the bill to even stay long enough to be evaluated, diagnosed, and treated. Take it from me I am a psych nurse and was the admitting mgr. of a very large psych hospital here in the DFW metroplex !!! Only the very rich and the very poor can go in for treatment.

167. It is a common practice to enter a hospital for a sleep disorder. He did the right thing. They treat patients with counseling and medication to let them have a full night of sleep. Exhaustion is a killer if not treated. Many night shift personal find that they need this to regenerate themselves. Maybe Mr. Ledgers death could have been avoided if he had had access to hospital treatment.

168. It really is NONE of anyone's business what the people are doing. Maybe if people worried about themselves and left these stars alone, they could move on and forward.

They are people too!!! AMERICA is FULL of rehabs all over, open the phonebook and look in your own back yard! Why is it SOOOOO hard to believe that Movie Stars/Musicians/etc., just may need some R&R too?? They are HUMAN too, LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!

Pick your battles wisely... sheeeesssshhhhh

169. Alright. Enough is enough. First the celebutards and celebutramps made a laughingstock out of medical rehab facilities. Now they're giving the same Gollyweeder treatment to hospital psychiatric units. What's next? State mental health facilities?

My mother was a psychiatric nurse and nursing supervisor at a mental health facility outside Chicago for 20 years (and roughly 1/3 of her family is or has been in the medical field. I cannot begin to tell you how disgusted I am with what these Gollyweed morons are doing. And y'all should be too. Because what they are doing - bottom line - is taking facilities and physcians away from those who really NEED and-or WANT treatment.

Furthermore, if they are MANDATED BY THE COURTS to go to a facility, they should NOT be allowed to waltz out whenever they want like it's a freaking day spa! That's a slap in the face to every doctor, nurse, med-tech and patient in those facilties.

170. I think it is outragious that these celebreties are not intitled to the same cival rights the rest of the citizens in the country are given. Mind your own business and get a life all off you. I truly hope some of you with the bigger mouths find your personal info on the internet and you get a taste of your own medicine. There is an old but true saying. "What goes around comes around."

173. It's sad when all you people can do is talk smack about someone who is trying to get help for whatever reason. It's not neccaarily a bad thing...

174. It's really a shame that most of you have such strong opinions about things you know nothing about. Freedom of speech, I guess, turns some people into mean- spirited, tabloid-mentality,low lives. Justin is first off an actual person with parents and siblings and a wife and children. He worked at fast food joints, went to high school proms and worked hard to buy a car. He worked hard to get to the acting job he has now. He is sweet and considerate and human. Some of you have such hatred in your lives. Justin would never say the ugly crap that you all are posting here.
Get better, Justin. You're a wonderful person!

175. This is the 21st century and most logical thinking people realize that most "mental illness" is simply a biochemical disorder with mental or emotional manifestations. I think it's awesome that he realized he needed help and got it BEFORE it got out of hand (ie: Ms Spears). He didn't "announce" it. Some reporter dug it up and he simply didn't deny it. Hopefully it would be an encouragement to people to get help before it's out of hand.

I also think people who admit they need help and get it deserve - and often get - a lot of creditability. We wouldn't think a cancer patient who sought treatment lacked character, so why should someone who needed help coping lack creditability either. I think in his case especially it's a brave thing to do, since he is in the public eye and it will be out there for all the world to see.

176. On the scale of coolness, psych ward is cooler than rehab, but an iron lung is the coolest of all.

177. Wow, I guess rehab is no longer cool - you go to go to a psych ward to get attention these days!

Who's next? Paris Hilton or Nicole Richie?

178. I can't believe some of you people. You know nothing about him except what you read, yet you trash him. Some of you have printed such evil things & you don't know what the heck you're talking about.
TMZ & other press, who Justin had politely requested to respect his & his families privacy, have chosen to forge ahead with
whatever they choose to print.
Justin is the most loving, caring, & devoted husband & father that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is an outstanding man who has compassion & respect for people. His love for his fans surpasses anyone I've ever seen or met. He has given back to the community in so many different ways. Unlike you, I know what I'm talking about.
Give this man the respect that he deserves.

179. #174 THANK YOU!!!!! Justin is a wonderful, caring, sensitive young husband and father of 14 years. A rarity in Hollywood. He also has parents and siblings and aunts and uncles and cousins...family...just like every one else ... who are supporting him 110%. Give his some privacy and respect to get the help he needs to be there for his family and to watch his beautiful children grow.
